Dear MICA Community,
The Governor Morrisey plans to stride into Fairmont today to announce that WV State Police will begin collaborating with ICE. If you're able, head down to Fairmont after today's noon action and show him that we do not accept his plan to cooperate with the MAGA Secret Police.
This is a clear escalation, and we need to answer the call.
Sources say that he will hold a press conference in front of the Public Safety building that houses the fire and police departments shortly before 2:00 p.m. In coordination with Friendly City Indivisible, our Fairmont neighbors, the plan is to put out signs along the likely routes Morrisey would take to arrive (and remove them once he leaves town) and then, beginning around 1:00 p.m. or so, make ourselves visible and loud in front of the Public Safety building at the Quincy Street and Jackson Street intersection. Get there as soon as you're able and meet near the parking garage.
You can read more at WV Watch and WDTV-5.
We’ll hold our regular weekly action at noon on Thursday, but WVU students are back, so we'll return to Riley Moore's office this week. You can park in the Dunkin' Donuts lot if you make a purchase.
This week's protest will focus on the positive—the things we DO want. A large sign behind the group will read "We support...," and members will hold signs naming an issue. Choose something that's important to you, make a sign, and bring a friend. And don't forget your red bandana!
We'll be notifying the press for this event, which will also include a recitation of MICA member Torli Bush's original poem, "Everything's Coming Up Red Bandanas."
The rise of Christian Nationalism is affecting everything from the health of our democracy to the fate of people in Gaza. Come hear Rev. Jenny Williams, the WV ACLU’s Faith Organizer, discuss how our community can respond. Join us Thursday, August 14, from 6–7:30 p.m., at Morgantown Church of the Brethren (465 Virginia Ave).
