MOUNTAINEERS INDIVISIBLE CITIZEN ACTION | Help us fight for our Country and our Democracy!
MICA continues to grow, reach more people, and increase our impact in this fight for our democracy and our country. As we continue to expand, we continue to need people to step up and help guide our organization. We have several committees that require leadership.
The nomination period for these roles is October 5 to October 19. You can self-nominate or nominate another person you feel is well suited for the role (we suggest you talk to them first and get their okay!). Voting for these roles will begin on October 20 and will conclude on November 2.
The role of President is currently being filled in the interim, but we need to secure a person willing to perform the role on a regular basis as soon as possible. Additionally, there are three committees needing leaders and one needing more team members. We are looking for two Operations Committee Co-Chairs, two Action Committee Co-Chairs, and one Membership Committee Co-Chair.
Each committee has two Co-Chairs to help support the efforts of the team and provide back-up for each other. One or both Co-Chairs are expected to attend our virtual, bi-monthly Steering Committee meetings to help make decisions, discuss planning and strategy, address challenges and keep the organization moving forward.
In addition to the Committee leadership roles up for election, the Meeting Support Committee is looking for volunteers.
Descriptions for all of these roles are included in the nomination form found at the link below. We look forward to hearing from you, and we hope that you'll consider throwing your name in the hat for consideration!
Mountaineers Indivisible Citizen Action is a grassroots citizen organization based in Morgantown, West Virginia. We are dedicated to protecting and strengthening our democratic institutions and actively defending our Constitution.
As part of the national Indivisible network, we stand united with thousands of similar groups across the country committed to upholding constitutional principles and democratic values at a time when they face significant challenges. Our members come from diverse political backgrounds but share a common commitment to preserving the democratic foundations that our nation depends upon.
Mountaineers Indivisible Citizen Action is a chapter of the West Virginia Citizen Action Group and a part of the national People’s Action network.
Our mission is to safeguard democratic principles and institutions through organized citizen action, informed advocacy, and community engagement. We believe that democracy requires vigilant protection and active participation from all citizens.
As a nonviolent resistance group, we:
Advocate for Accountability: We contact elected officials at all levels of government, advocating for transparency, adherence to constitutional principles, and equitable policies that benefit all people, not just the privileged few.
Organize Community Actions: We coordinate peaceful demonstrations, town halls, and community forums to hold our elected officials accountable, protect our democracy, and amplify citizen voices. We use the resistance tactics advocated by Indivisible and Gene Sharp's 198 Methods of Nonviolent Action.
Promote Civic Engagement: We encourage voting, participation in local government, and broader civic involvement to elect better leaders who serve the needs of all people.
Provide Community and Hope: We provide mutual support for one another in the face of the havoc perpetrated by anti-democratic forces in our state and country.
We take action when something violates our principles; when a political response can contribute to discourse or policy change, and when there are seven or more members ready to participate in executing an action. Among our other goals, we aim to build our power by bringing more people into our movement.
